Zach “Fun Size” Makovsky, 39, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, United States is competing in BRAVE Combat Federation again. He currently holds a professional mixed martial arts record of 21 wins and 10 losses.

Makovsky will fight Asu “Zulfikar” Almabaev (Асу Алмабаев), 28, of Almaty, Kazakhstan in the flyweight division at “BRAVE CF 60” in Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil on July 30, 2022. The Kazakh MMA fighter currently has 15 wins and 2 losses.

“BRAVE CF 60” marks Makovsky’s third BRAVE CF fight. It will be Almabaev’s third bout in the Bahrain-based MMA promotion.

MMA purists understand that the flyweight division is somewhat of an enigma, showcasing so much dynamics in terms of athlete intelligence quotient (IQ), strength, maneuverability, speed and more. It is slowly becoming a division as glamorous as the traditionally hot lightweight and heavyweight divisions.

What better way to celebrate the 125lbs division than by putting Almabaev and Makovsky against one another. The last time the Bethlehem native fought was on April 1, 2021 in the BRAVE CF Flyweight Tournament semifinals at “BRAVE CF 50” where he lost via split decision to Velimurad Alkhasov (Велимурад Алхасов), 30, of Grozny, Russia.

It was a rematch between Makovsky and Alkhasov. When Makovsky made his BRAVE CF debut at “BRAVE CF 34” on January 19, 2020, he lost via split decision to Alkhasov.

Makovsky made his professional MMA debut in 2006. He fought in Bellator MMA from 2010 to 2012 and in the Ultimate Fighting Championship from 2013 to 2016.

In 2021, Almabaev won the BRAVE CF Submission of the Year award for pulling off a beautiful rear-naked choke against Aleksander Doskalchuk, 32, of Chernivtsi, Ukraine at “BRAVE CF 53” on August 21, 2021.

Almabaev also won the BRAVE CF Breakout Fighter of the Year prize in 2021. On March 11, 2022, he defeated Imram Magaramov of Baku, Azerbaijan via unanimous decision at “BRAVE CF 57”.
