Robert Eugene “Bobby” Crimo III, 21, of Highwood, Illinois, United States is a rapper also known as Awake the Rapper. In 2019, his father Robert “Bob” Crimo II, 57, of Highwood unsuccessfully ran for mayor in Highland Park, Illinois, losing to Nancy Rodkin Rotering, 60.
With a high-powered rifle, Bobby was standing on a roof at around 10:15 a.m. on July 4, 2022. Just minutes after a Fourth of July parade began in Highland Park, he allegedly opened fire, killing seven people and injuring 38 others.
Bobby fled the scene driving a 2010 silver Honda Fit with an Illinois plate. At around 6:30 p.m., the car was located in Lake Forest, Chicago, Illinois and Bobby was arrested without incident near Westleigh Road and Skokie Highway in Lake Forest.
Also that evening, law enforcement vehicles surrounded Bobby’s apartment in Highwood. He has an uncle who lives near the apartment.
Authorities were also at Bobby’s parents’ house in Highland Park. It is near Bob’s Pantry & Deli, a restaurant owned by his father.
Bobby is the second among the three children of Bob and Denise Marie Pesina Crimo, 48, of Highland Park. A photo of Bob and Denise were featured in a Chicago Tribune article published on June 19, 2013.
In 2016, Bobby released his song “By The Pond” featuring Atlas. On December 23, 2017, Sleepy Squad released Bobby’s first album titled “messages“, which has 23 songs including “2022“, “K.I.A.” and “out.of.this.world“.
Before the mass shooting in Highland Park, Bobby released his second extended play titled “Brainwashed“. The EP has five songs namely “Brainwashed“, “Dead Again“, “Gameboy“, “Dumb Diddy Dumb” and “I Am the Storm“.
