Shanteari Weems, 50, of Randallstown, Baltimore County, Maryland, United States operates the Lil Kidz Kastle day care in Owing Mills, Baltimore County. Her husband used to work as police officer in Baltimore, Maryland.

In 2005, Weems’ husband retired from the Baltimore Police Department. From his retirement until 2008, he worked as a contract specialist.

According to Weems, she was told by teachers, parents and children at the Lil Kidz Kastle day care that her husband had been molesting children there. On July 20, 2022, she drove from Maryland to Washington, D.C. and met him at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Southwest, Washington, D.C.

On the evening of July 21, 2022, Weems confronted her husband about the molestation allegations. According to her, the argument got heated and when he started to go toward her, she retrieved a handgun from her purse and shot him in the head and the leg.

At around 7:40 p.m., Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the hotel. After negotiating with Weems for around 30 minutes, the officers arrested the retired Baltimore Police Department officer’s wife.

Weems was charged with assault with intent to kill, possession of an unregistered firearm, possession of unregistered ammunition and other gun-related counts. Her husband suffered non life-threatening injuries and the Lil Kidz Kastle day care was closed while investigation is ongoing.

Lisbeth Sapirstein is representing Weems. The latter is being held without bond and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Washington, D.C. on July 25, 2022.
