Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, 35, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States and Steven “Braveheart” Ray, 32, of Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland will headline “PFL 7: 2022 Playoffs“. It is a rematch between the two mixed martial arts veterans.

The Professional Fighters League will hold “PFL 7: 2022 Playoffs” at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, USA on August 5, 2022. It marks Pettis’s fifth fight in the league.

When Pettis made his PFL debut on April 23, 2021, he lost via unanimous decision to Clay “Cassius” Collard, 29, of Price, Utah, USA. On June 25, 2021, Pettis lost via split decision to Raush “Cavalo de Guerra” Manfio, 30, of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

On May 6, 2022, Pettis earned his first PFL win by submitting Myles “Magic” Price, 34, of Kilkenny, Ireland. The MMA fighter from Milwaukee had his third loss in the league when he was submitted by Ray on June 24, 2022.

On August 2, 2022, I asked Pettis who he considers as his toughest PFL opponent so far. Without hesitation, he mentioned Collard.

“That’s one I thought I’d see again,” Pettis told me. “It’s crazy to not even see him in the playoffs but yeah, Clay Collard, for sure. His pace, you know, his boxing and his body work- that was something I wasn’t expecting.”

Both Pettis and Ray competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship before joining the PFL. The Milwaukee native made his professional MMA debut in 2007 and the Scottish MMA fighter has been fighting professionally since 2010.

Pettis fought in the UFC from 2011 to 2020 and reigned as the UFC Lightweight Champion from August 31, 2013 to March 14, 2015. He now holds a professional MMA record of 25 wins and 13 losses.

Ray currently has 24 wins and 10 losses. He fought in the UFC from 2015 to 2019, went on hiatus from 2020 to 2021 and lost to Alex Martinez, 28, of Paraguay and Canada via unanimous decision when he made his PFL debut on April 20, 2022.

Martinez will fight Olivier “The Canadian Gangster” Aubin-Mercier, 33, of Boucherville, Quebec, Canada at “PFL 7: 2022 Playoffs”. The winner will face in the finals whoever wins between Pettis and Ray.
