Paramaribo, Suriname’s Donovan Wisse is still Glory Middleweight Champion, beats Juri De Sousa in Dusseldorf, Germany


Donovan Wisse, 25, of Paramaribo, Suriname is still the middleweight champion of Glory, an international kickboxing promotion based in Singapore. He was one of the winners of “Glory 81“.

Featuring eight kickboxing bouts, “Glory 81” was held at Castello in Düsseldorf, Germany on August 20, 2022. In the co-main event of the evening, he defended his Glory Middleweight Championship title from Juri De Sousa, 28, Portugal.


After five three-minute rounds, the referee raised the hand of Wisse. The defending champion won via unanimous decision.

The victory improved Wisse’s professional kickboxing record to 17 wins and 1 loss. He currently has 7 wins and 1 loss in Glory.


Born and raised in Paramaribo, Wisse attended St. Paulusschool in Paramaribo. He is 6’2″ tall.

Wisse made his professional kickboxing debut in 2016. When he made his Glory debut at “Glory 59” in Amsterdam, Netherlands, he defeated Kevin van Heeckeren of the Netherlands via unanimous decision.

On December 8, 2018, Wisse lost via split decision to Ertugrul Bayrak of Turkey at “Glory 62” in Rotterdam, Netherlands. It was the Surinamese kickboxer’s first loss.

In 2019, Wisse defeated four Glory opponents namely Matěj Peňáz of Czech Republic, Yousri Belgaroui of Tunisia, Jason Wilnis of the Netherlands and Cesar Almeida of Brazil. On September 4, 2021, Wisse and Belgaroui had a rematch at “Glory 78” in Arnhem, Netherlands and fought for the then vacant Glory Middleweight Championship title.

Wisse defeated Belgaroui via technical knockout due to doctor stoppage. “Glory 81” marked Wisse’s first title defense as the Glory Middleweight Champion.
