Michael Roberts, 40, of Round Rock, Texas, United States is a a content interventionist. He is a former employee at Navarro Early College High School in Austin, Texas.
Between December 2020 and June 2021, Roberts allegedly travelled from the U.S. to Colombia to engage in illegal sexual conduct with minors. In July 2021, he passed the background check process of the Austin Independent School District (AISD) and started working for the school district at the start of the 2021-2022 school year.
On September 6, 2022, a federal grand jury handed down an indictment. On September 15, 2022, Roberts was arrested in Round Rock.
Roberts was charged with three counts of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place. Facing up to 30 years in prison on each of the three counts, the Round Rock man will be arraigned on September 20, 2022.
At the time of Roberts’s arrest, he was an employee at Bertha Sadler Means Young Women’s Leadership Academy and Gus Garcia Young Men’s Leadership Academy, which are both in Austin. The AISD has placed him on administrative leave and has clarified that there have been no allegations that he had any inappropriate contact with any students of the school district.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is investigating the case, which was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood. Launched by the U.S. Department of Justice in May 2006, the initiative combats the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
