Former police officer Panya Khamrapm (ปัญญา คำราบ) of Nong Bua Lamphu, Thailand has died. He was 34.
When Khamrapm was a high school student, his drug addiction started. Years later, he became a police sergeant in Na Wang, Nong Bua Lamphu.
The Nong Bua Lamphu resident was married. Their child was attending a daycare center in Uthai Sawan, Na Klang, Nong Bua Lamphu.
In January 2022, the police department in Na Wang suspended Khamrapm after he was arrested for possessing methamphetamine. In June 2022, he was dismissed from his post.
Facing trial on a drugs charge, Khamrapm went to court on the morning of October 6, 2022 then went home. At around 11:24 a.m. that day, he drove a white Toyota Hilux Vigo pickup truck out of his house while armed with a knife, a shotgun and a SIG Sauer 9mm pistol, which he legally purchased.
At 12:50 p.m., Khamrapm arrived at the daycare center in Uthai Sawan where he was supposed to collect his child. When he did not find his child there, he went on a shooting and stabbing rampage.
The attack started outside the nursery building where Khamrapm fatally shot a man and the man’s son. The former police sergeant proceeded to attack five staff members including a teacher who was 8 months pregnant before entering a room where he stabbed children who were sleeping there.
While fleeing the scene in his pickup truck, Khamrapm shot at bystanders and rammed them. When he arrived home, he set up the truck on fire using gasoline before fatally shooting his wife, their child then himself.
Khamrapm ended the lives of at least 38 people, 24 of which were aged 2-5. He was supposed to appear for a court hearing on October 7, 2022.
