Zobaidul Amin, 24, of Bangladesh was a medical student in Malaysia. He is accused of abusing and exploiting hundreds of minor victims Malaysia and in different parts of the United States including Alaska.
Between October 26, 2021 and September 19, 2022, Amin allegedly directed or produced child pornography using the Snapchat application while he was living at a house in Bukit Rasah, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. It is considered one of the most malicious, digitally facilitated sextortion and child pornography production schemes investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Amin allegedly directed the operation of his child exploitation enterprise with others. They allegedly used over 80 Snapchat accounts and over 40 Instagram accounts to pose as a teenage boy or a teenage girl and sextort minors from outside Malaysia.
A total of 740 digital images containing child pornography were found in Amin’s mobile phone, universal serial bus (USB) drive and hard disk. He allegedly would promise to stop extorting the victims if they helped him find new victims.
On September 19, 2022, Malaysian authorities arrested Amin in Seremban after a joint investigation with the FBI. On the same day, Unit D11 of the Royal Malaysia Police took him into custody in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia following coordination with the FBI office in Anchorage, Alaska.
Prosecutors with the Malaysia Attorney General’s Chambers charged Amin with 12 counts related to the possession and production of child pornography. The U.S. Department of Justice for the District of Alaska charged him with 13 counts.
