Richard “Rick” Slaughter is a white man from Orting, Washington, United States where he works as a a mortgage loan officer. He is 20 years older than his stepson Caden Paul Gottfried.

3. From 2006 to 2008, he was a Bally Total Fitness general manager. From 2008 to 2011, he was a CitiFinancial senior brand account executive.
4. From April 2013 to February 2014, he worked for Wave Lending Group in Puyallup as a loan officer. From February 2014 to January 2016, he worked for Mortgage Master Service Corporation in Puyallup as a loan officer.
5. Since the nonprofit organization Haven Teen Center opened in 2014 in Orting, he has been involved in the organization. In 2017, he and his wife joined the organization’s board. 
6. From February 2016 to May 2018, he worked for Evergreen Home Loans in Bellevue, Washington as a licensed mortgage loan originator.
7. In May 2018, he joined Guild Mortgage in Tacoma, Washington as a mortgage loan officer.
8. On January 4, 2021, he and Gotffried traveled together from Seattle, Washington to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. From January 5-7, 2021, they stayed at the Sheraton in Pentagon City, Virginia, USA. Wearing a blue Trump 2020 hat and a Make America Great Again sweatshirt with a black gaiter covering his face, he went to the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C., USA with Gottfried on January 6, 2021. That day, Donald Trump supporters breached the building while a joint session of Congress was certifying the vote of the Electoral College and affirming Joe Biden‘s victory in the 2020 presidential election. On January 7, 2021, he and Gottfriend traveled together Washington Dulles International Airport in Dulles, Virginia to Seattle–Tacoma International Airport in Seattle.
9. In February 2021, he was interviewed by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and he admitted to being at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
10. In March 2021, he became the Haven Teen Center program director while his wife became the organization’s volunteer executive director. 
11. On December 2, 2021, he was sworn in as a new Orting School District (OSD) board director.
12. An FBI agent filed a criminal complaint against him, which was signed by U.S. Magistrate Judge Moxila A. Upadhyaya on September 30 2022. For his participation in the U.S. Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, he was charged with assaulting, resisting, or impeding law enforcement officers using a deadly or dangerous weapon, interfering with law enforcement officers during a civil disorder and other felony and misdemeanor offenses.
13. He was 40 years old when he was arrested in Tacoma on October 12, 2022.
