Joseph Lloyd “Joe” Kennedy II, 67, of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, United States owns A&A Auto Salvage, a salvage yard in Okmulgee. In 2012, he confronted six intruders who broke into the salvage yard and shot them, wounding one.
In 2013, Kennedy pleaded no contest to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, which are felony offenses, and obstructing a police officer, a misdemeanor. He was required to meet conditions of probation until May 15, 2023.
On October 9, 2022, Okmulgee residents Mark Chastain, 32, Mike Sparks, 32, and Billy Chastain, 30, and Alex Stevens, 29, were reported missing by their families. The four men were allegedly planning to commit a crime when they left Billy’s residence on W Sixth Street in Okmulgee on their bicycles.
Mark and Billy are brothers. A ping from Mark’s phone led investigators to an area near Kennedy’s salvage yard where evidence of a violent event was found.
On October 14, 2022, Mark, Sparks, Billy and Stevens were found dead in the Deep Fork River at the Sharp Road Bridge in Okmulgee. They all suffered gunshot wounds and their bodies were dismembered before being placed in the river.
On October 17, 2022, Kennedy was identified as a person of interest. On the same day, his blue Chrysler PT Cruiser was found abandoned behind a business in Morris, Oklahoma while another car was reported stolen to the Okmulgee County Sheriff’s Office.
On October 18, 2022, Kennedy was driving the stolen car when he was arrested without incident in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, USA. He was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach, Florida without bail.
Also issued was an arrest warrant for Kennedy related to the felony sentence deferred for 10 years, which he received in 2013. The bond on that warrant is $500,000.
Kennedy is expected to be extradited to Oklahoma. He was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle but he has yet to be named a suspect in the deaths of Mark, Sparks, Billy and Stevens.
