Matthew Paul Herr-Ramirez, 18, of Grove City, Meeker County, Minnesota, United States attends Paynesville Area High School in Paynesville, Stearns County. He is accused of making threats of a school shooting.
On October 14, 2022, Herr-Ramirez allegedly named two staff members he wanted to shoot. He had pictures of a pistol at school on his cellphone, which he allegedly showed to another student.
During a class on October 17, 2022, several students heard Herr-Ramirez say he was going to bring a gun to school. He named a fellow student and three staff members as targets and added that he would continue shooting random students and staff.
At 7:45 p.m., Paynesville Police Department officers arrested Herr-Ramirez at his home in Grove City. Officers found on his person an airsoft gun, which is a type of pellet gun.
Charged with five counts of felony threats of violence, Herr-Ramirez was booked into the Stearns County Jail in St. Cloud, Stearns County. Bail was set at $100,000 with conditions or $200,000 without conditions.
On October 19, 2022, Herr-Ramirez made his first court appearance and was assigned a public defender. On November 2, 2022, the Paynesville Area High School student will be back in court for an omnibus hearing.
