Fausto Ramiro Santos Carillo, 56, has lived in both the United States and Guatemala. He shared an apartment with Martha Morales in Plainfield, Union County, New Jersey, United States.

On July 23, 2003, Plainfield Police Department officers found Morales dead inside the apartment. She was 49.

Carillo allegedly fled the area after fatally stabbing Morales. In February 2018, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force received a tip about his possible location.

It was later confirmed that Carillo was in Guatemala City, Guatemala. On March 21, 2022, members of the U.S. Marshals Service arrested him in Guatemala where he was held.

On November 4, 2022, Carillo was extradited to New Jersey. He was charged with murder and weapons-related offenses.
