Grand Blanc, Michigan’s Neil Matthew Walter accused of threatening California’s John Garamendi, FBI’s Christopher Wray

Neil Matthew Walter, 32, of Grand Blanc, Genesee County, Michigan, United States owns a registered handgun. He has a mental illness, according to his parents.

On January 7, 2015, Walter registered to vote in Flint, Genesee County. On November 3, 2022, he allegedly left a voicemail for John Garamendi, 77, the incumbent congressman of California, USA.

“John, Hey John,” John allegedly said in the voicemail. “You’re gonna die John. You’re gonna die.”

On November 8, 2022, the U.S. Capitol Police contacted the Metro Authority Police Department in Genesee County for a welfare check. When investigators went to Walter’s home in Grand Blanc, he answered the door with a gun in his hand and refused to drop it.

While Walter did not threaten the investigators, he claimed that he would defend himself against the U.S. government. He also went on a rant about a lawsuit with Russia’s incumbent president Vladimir Putin, 70, “about kids being raped” and “how he is calling everyone all the time but no one is doing anything about the kids.”

Walter’s father arrived at the residence and told investigators of Walter’s mental instability and prior history of being committed to a hospital in Florida, USA. When the U.S. Capitol Police contacted Walter’s mother on November 10, 2022, she said Walter was refusing mental health treatment and was still in possession of a handgun.

While incumbent Federal Bureau of Investigation director Christopher Wray, 55, was live on Facebook on November 19, 2022, Walter allegedly posted comments threatening to kill the director. The Grand Blanc resident allegedly wrote, “Director Wray is going to die every single day multiple times a day for raping my family over and over and lying to them and myself about it I will kill you i will you I will kill you director Wray you will die i will kill you in self defense.”

“Your sentence will be absolutely incredible in death redundantly,” Walter allegedly wrote. “Get prepared for your killings, out of self defense for violating my human rights and my girlfriends.”

On November 22, Walter was arrested. During an appearance in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, he was ordered temporarily detained without bail.

On December 1, 2022, Walter will appear again in that court for a detention hearing. He was charged with transmitting in interstate commerce a communication containing a threat to injury the person of another.
