Jeremy Miado vs Jarred Brooks? Filipino MMA fighter thanks ONE Strawweight World Champion

“The Jaguar” Jeremy Miado, 29, of Albay, Philippines is one of the ONE Championship fighters who could challenge ONE Strawweight World Champion “The Monkey God” Jarred Brooks, 29, of Detroit, Michigan, United States. The latter won the title by dethroning then champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 26, of Baguio City, Philippines  at “ONE 164” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on December 3, 2022.

A month before becoming the new ONE Strawweight World Champion, Brooks mentioned Miado in an interview with MMA Sucka. The Detroit resident said the Filipino mixed martial artist is “very tough”.

“With one to two more wins with Jeremy Miado, he’s definitely getting a title shot,” Brooks said. “He’s on a three-knockout win streak so I’m looking forward to fighting somebody like Jeremy Miado.”

It is not impossible for Miado to challenge the reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion in 2023. Here is a recent interview with the Albay native:

CONAN ALTATIS: How did you predict the Joshua Pacio vs Jarred Brooks match to end and what is your reaction to the unanimous decision victory of Brooks?

JEREMY MIADO: Nagulat po ako sa pinakitang striking ni Brooks at sa footwork niya. Na-control niya si Pacio ng more than 4 minutes sa first at fourth rounds. Sa fifth, na takedown at na-control niya ulit si Pacio kaya ‘di po ako nagulat sa decision. Pero for sure 100% makakabawi si Pacio. Alam natin na laging bumabalik si Pacio at lalong mas malakas. (I was surprised by the striking prowess and footwork shown by Brooks. He controlled Pacio for more than 4 minutes in the first and fourth rounds. In the fifth round, he pulled off a takedown and he controlled Pacio again so I was not surprised by the decision. But I’m 100% sure, Pacio will bounce back. We know that Pacio always bounces back even stronger.)

CA: You are one of the most well-rounded fighters of ONE Championship. Please tell us who are helping you with your striking skills and with your ground game.

JM: Thanks for that po. Sa striking, ‘yong Muay Thai coach ko po is si Coach Pipha, ‘yong nag-train kina Lerdsila and Saenchai so very technical. My boxing trainer naman po is from Iran’s national team, Coach Purya. (Thanks for that. With striking, my Muay Thai is Coach Pipha, the one who trained Lerdsila and Saenchai so it is very technical. My boxing trainer is from Iran’s national team, Coach Purya, one of the boxing coaches of Buakaw at Superbon and he also coached Petchtanong’s boxing in Petchtanong’s last fight where he won the belt. With wrestling and grappling, I have high-level coaches and teammates including Coach Colt, a U.S. marine wrestler and Jack from New Zealand, a wrestler, a grappler and a BJJ practitioner. DJ Jackson, a world BJJ champ, and Coach William also coached me.)

CA: Would you rather fight Jarred Brooks in the Philippines or in the US? Why?

JM: Sa Philippines po. Gagawin ko lahat ng makakaya ko para mabawi ang belt sa harap ng mga Filipino. (In the Philippines. I will do everything that I can to reclaim the belt in front of my fellow Filipinos.)

CA: What is your message to Jarred Brooks?

JM: I want to thank him kasi na-recognize niya ang pangalan ko at na-appreciate niya ‘yong win streak ko at hard work so I hope darating ang time na magkaharap kami kaya need ko pa more hard work. (I want to thank him because he recognized my name and he appreciated my win streak and hard work so I hope, time will come, I will face him so I need more hard work.)

On October 21, 2022, Miado defeated “Mini-T” Danial Williams, 29, of Perth, Western Australia, Australia via technical knockout via punches at “ONE on Prime Video 3” at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Training in Marrok Force in Bangkok, Thailand, Maido now holds a professional MMA record of 12 wins and 4 losses and he is now riding a four-bout win streak.

On May 5, 2023, the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado, USA will host “ONE on Prime Video 10“, the first ever ONE Championship event to be held in the U.S. So far, only the trilogy bout between ONE Flyweight World Champion “Mighty Mouse” Demetrious Johnson, 36, of Parkland, Washington, USA and “Mikinho” Adriano Moraes, 34, of Brasilia, Federal District, Brazil has been confirmed to be on the card.

ONE Championship has yet to confirm whether or not Brooks will defend the ONE Strawweight World Championship title at “ONE on Prime Video 10”. Since he won the title in the Philippines, it would be great if his challenger is a Filipino, whether it is Pacio or Miado.
