Pasadena, California’s Dr. Dharmesh Patel drives Tesla with family inside off cliff

Dr. Dharmesh Arvind Patel, 41, of Pasadena, Los Angeles County, California, United States is a radiologist at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Pasadena. In 2008, he graduated from the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan, USA.

Dharmesh and his wife Neha Bubna Patel, 41, have two children together. Neha gave birth to their daughter in 2015 and their son in 2018.

Neha is originally from Dublin, California. She is a teacher at the Polytechnic School in Pasadena.

At around 10.50 a.m. on January 2, 2023, Dharmesh, Neha and their two children were found 250 feet down a cliffside along the Pacific Coast Highway at Devil’s Slide in California. The father, who was behind the wheel, is accused of intentionally launching his four-door, white Tesla Model Y sedan with his family inside off the cliff.

Both Dharmesh and Neha suffered non-life threatening injuries while their children had moderate injuries. Trapped inside the mangled vehicle, the four occupants of the car were all conscious when they were reached by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

A rope was used to lift the two children up the cliff in baskets while their parents were hoisted to safety by a California Highway Patrol helicopter. The four were transported to Stanford Medical Center in Stanford, California for treatment.

At around 9:00 p.m., Dharmesh was arrested without incident. He was charged with attempted murder and child abuse.

Based on the evidence collected, investigators developed probable cause to believe that the incident was an intentional act, according to the California Highway Patrol. Dharmesh will be booked into the San Mateo County Jail in Redwood, California upon his release from the hospital.
