Katelyn Vinson represented Dothan, Alabama, United States at Miss Alabama USA 2021 on January 10, 2021 at the Auburn Hotel Grand Ballroom in Auburn, Alabama and competed against 25 other candidates. She was third runner-up to Alexandria Flanigan.
On January 15, 2022, Vinson represented Dothan at Miss Alabama USA 2022 at the Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center of Auburn University in Auburn and won the title. She competed against 33 other candidates including the respective first, second, third and fourth runners-up namely Noelia Voigt of Camelia, Harleigh Lantrip of Hoover, Natalie Lamm of Auburn and Samantha Huver of Northport.

On January 28, 2023, Vinson will crown her successor at the Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center of Auburn University in Auburn It is the 68th edition of the beauty pageant that selects Alabama’s candidate for Miss USA, which selects the Miss Universe candidate of the U.S.
Alabama currently has 30 Miss USA placements including the coronation of Sylvia Hitchcock, who won Miss USA and Miss Universe in 1967. Representing the state, Kelly Hutchinson was fourth runner-up to Miss USA 2020 Asya Branch.

Vinson attended Houston Academy in Dothan from 2003 to 2018 and Samford University in Homewood, Alabama from 2018 to 2019. In 2019, she entered the Harbert College of Business of Auburn University in Auburn to pursue a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
On October 3, 2022, Vinson represented Alabama at Miss USA 2022 and competed against 50 other candidates at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Washoe County, Nevada, USA. She was unplaced.
