Both Nikeal Franklin, 19, and Jy’Shaun Jackson, 19, are residents of Vacherie, St. James Parish, Louisiana, United States. Vacherie is around 50 miles away from Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana.
In May 2022, Franklin pleaded guilty to illegal possession of stolen things. He was sentenced to two years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections in Baton Rouge with credit for time served.
At around 1:30 a.m. on January 21, 2023, Jackson allegedly helped Franklin shoot one partygoer in the Dior Bar & Lounge in Baton Rouge. A total of 12 people were wounded and most of them sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
Initially, three of the victims were listed in critical condition. Their conditions later improved.
On February 10, 2023, St. James Parish Sheriff Department detectives and deputies helped Baton Rouge Police Department homicide detectives execute multiple search warrants in St. James Parish. Franklin and Jackson were arrested as a result.
Franklin was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison in Baton Rouge and charged with 12 counts of attempted first-degree murder. Jackson was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison in Baton Rouge and charged with 12 counts of being principal to attempted first-degree murder.
