Carl William Haller, 39, of Sunrise, Broward County, Florida, United States previously lived in Xenia, Ohio, USA. Aside from Sunrise, he has lived in other parts of Florida including Gainesville and Starke.

On March 28, 2001, Haller registered to vote in Broward County. He is a Republican.

In March 2016, Haller joined the Sunrise Police Department. He became a member of the agency’s special weapons and tactics (SWAT) team.

On January 30, 2023, the Sunrise Police Department started an internal investigation after receiving allegations that Haller had been viewing child pornography on his personal electronic devices. The department did not reveal where the allegations came from.

After obtaining a search warrant, Sunrise Police Department officers searched Haller’s residence in Sunrise and his electronic devices. On February 18, 2023, he was arrested and booked into the Broward County Jail in Fort Lauderdale, Broward County.

Haller’s police-issued firearms, police badge and police identification were confiscated. He was charged with intentional viewing of sexual performance by a child and tampering with evidence. 

Currently, Haller is on administrative leave without pay. The Sunrise Police Department pointed out that the actions he demonstrated by do not reflect the character and professionalism that is expected of the men and women of the agency.

Founded by Norman Johnson, Sunrise was incorporated in 1961. Since 2010, Michael J. Ryan has been serving as the mayor of the city.

Located in Sunrise, the FLA Live Arena is the home of the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League. In 2010, the city finished the complete renovation and rebranding of its executive course Seven Bridges at Springtree Golf Club, a 67-acre facility that first opened in 1972.
