Operation Just & Necessary targeted sex offenders in Kanawha County, West Virginia, United States and the surrounding area. The U.S. Marshals Southern District of West Virginia Cops United Felony Fugitive Enforcement Division (CUFFED) Task Force and West Virginia State Police conducted the operation from March 6-17, 2023.
The West Virginia State Police conducted 228 compliance checks, found six sex offenders to be out of compliance and updated the registries of 103 other sex offenders. They also recovered one firearm, 38 grams of methamphetamine and around 28.3 grams of fentanyl.
Moreover, the U.S. Marshals Service found four non-compliant sex offenders to possibly be out of West Virginia and have opened federal investigations into violations of The Adam Walsh Act. Signed into law by 46th U.S. president George W. Bush, 76, on July 27, 2006, the act requires sex offenders to regularly update their whereabouts.
A total of 21 non-compliant sex offenders were arrested during the operation. All of them are residents of West Virginia except for one who is from Kentucky, USA.
