Marathon, Florida’s Frank Smith-Samuel charged with burglary

Frank Barry Smith-Samuel, 36, of Marathon, Florida Keys, in Monroe County, Florida, United States is a fisherman. At around 2:00 a.m. on April 22, 2023, he allegedly broke into the house of a woman, 33, in Marathon while she slept.

When the woman woke up in her bedroom, Smith-Samuel was allegedly on top of her. The two did not know each other.


According to the woman, Smith-Samuel tried to restrain her so she could not move. He fled when she started to scream to a family member for help, she told investigators.

The victim did not suffer serious injuries. Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies were able to identify Smith-Samuel as the suspect.

A warrant was issued for his arrest. On April 26, 2023, he was arrested and charged with burglary on an occupant.


Incorporated in 1999, Marathon is a relatively new city. The city is home to the Florida Keys Marathon Airport, which covers 197 acres.

Marathon is a major sport fishing destination with a tropical savanna climate. On September 10, 2017, the city experienced significant damage from the U.S. landfall of Hurricane Irma.
