Jane Pyo, 33, of Washington, D.C., United States is accused of abducting a child, 3, from the outdoor play area at Tysons Corner Center in Tysons, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA on the afternoon of April 27, 2023. She and the child did not know each other.
That afternoon, Pyo allegedly stopped walking, talked with the child, took the child by the hand, walked into the mall with the child, picked up the child and went down an escalator. Shortly after 5:45 p.m., officers from the Tyson Urban Team (TUT) of the Fairfax County Police Department arrived at the mall and checked security cameras.
With the help of mall security, the TUT officers found Pyo and the child inside Coastal Flats, a restaurant inside the mall. She allegedly assaulted the officers when they approached her.
The officers ultimately took Pyo into custody and returned the child safely to the child’s family. The suspect was booked into the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center in Fairfax, Fairfax County.
Pyo was charged with abduction, trespassing, possession of burglarious tools and assault on law enforcement. The Washington, D.C. resident also was served an outstanding warrant for failure to appear stemming from a separate incident.
Fairfax County chief public defender Dawn Butorac‘s office is representing Pyo, who is being held without bond. The return court date has yet to be announced.
