Oleksandr Gvozdyk, 35, of Kharkiv, Ukraine has earned his 19th professional boxing win. On May 6, 2023, he fought Ričards Bolotņiks, 33, of Riga, Latvia at Estadio Akron in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico.

It was Gvozdyk’s first professional boxing bout outside the United States. It was Bolotniks first boxing bout in Mexico.

Gvozdyk and Bolotniks battled it out in the light heavyweight division. The Ukrainian boxer is 6’2″ and his Latvian opponent is 6’1″ tall.

Celestino Ruiz served as the referee. The judges were Erika Contreras, Ruben Cruz and Christian Garduno Ortiz.

After 1 minute and 56 seconds of the sixth round, Ruiz stopped the light heavyweight match. Gvozdyk was declared the winner via technical knockout.

Losing to Gvozdyk downgraded Bolotniks’ professional boxing record to 19 wins, 7 losses and 1 draw. The fighter from Riga made his professional boxing debut on August 15, 2013.

On the other hand, Gvozdyk now has 19 wins and 1 loss. He made his professional boxing debut on April 12, 2014.

Born in Kharkiv, Gvozdyk started boxing in 1997. In September 2008, he won gold in the light heavyweight division at the 2008 World University Boxing Championship in Kazan, Russia.

Between 2011 to 2013, Gvozdyk won all of his nine World Series of Boxing bouts. At the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan in July 2013, he won gold.

Gvozdyk is an only child. He and his wife have one daughter and two sons togeter.
