Greenville, South Carolina’s Reed Messer arrested; Ex-teacher extradited to Delaware

Reed G. Messer, 42, of Greenville, Greenville County, South Carolina, United States previously lived in Greer, South Carolina and Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware, USA. She is a former teacher at Stanton Middle School in Wilmington.

From October 2014 to November 2014, Messer allegedly had a sexual relationship with a juvenile student. Only limited information about the alleged crimes were released in consideration of the victim and due to the sensitivity of the case.

Since November 2014, Messer has not been an employee of the Red Clay Consolidated School District, which includes Stanton Middle School. After leaving Delaware, she was hired by Legacy Early College, a charter school in Greenvill.

In July 2015, Messer was first certified as a teacher in South Carolina for elementary and early childhood education, middle level language arts, English and special education. In November 2015, she received a literacy specialist endorsement.

On December 23, 2022, authorities received a report about the relationship between Messer and a juvenile student in 2014. On April 26, 2023, she was arrested at her home in Greenville.

On May 8, 2023, Messer was extradited back to Delaware. She was booked into the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in New Castle, New Castle County.

Messer was charged with two counts of sexual abuse of a child by a person of trust, 10 counts of third-degree rape and 10 counts of fourth-degree rape. Her cash bond was set at $310,000.
