Lasanta Qumar McGill of Northwest, Washington, D.C., United States has died. He was 62.
McGill lived in different parts of Maryland, USA including Capitol Heights, New Carrollton, District Heights and Oxon Hill.
On the afternoon of June 8, 2023, McGill was outside a deli market in Northwest while there was a fight between three men inside the market. One of the three men is Demarcus Barnett, 20, of Washington, D.C.
The fight spilled out into the street near The Howard Theatre in Northwest where Barnett allegedly fired a gun, striking McGill. The victim was not involved in the conflict at all.
At around 1:15 p.m., Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia (DC Police) officers responded to the scene and found McGill suffering from gunshot wounds. The officers provided first aid before the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department (DC Fire & EMS) transported the victim to the hospital where he later died.
Barnett was immediately identified as a person of interest in the shooting and arrested. He was arraigned in the Superior Court in the District of Columbia in Northwest where he entered a not guilty plea and was ordered held without bond.
On June 10, 2023, DC Police announced that Barnett was charged with second-degree murder while armed. At 9:30 a.m. on June 20, 2023, he will attend a preliminary hearing before Judge Maria Elizabeth “Maribeth” Raffinan.
