Praveenar Singh-Thakral, 27, of Phuket, Thailand almost won Miss Universe Thailand 2023. While she did not win the title, she made history as the first married woman to compete in the national beauty pageant that selects Thailand’s Miss Universe candidate.
Hosted by PK Piyawat, the Miss Universe Thailand 2023 coronation ceremony was held at the MCC Hall of The Mall Lifestore Ngamwongwan in Nonthaburi, Thailand. Including Singh-Thakral, a total of 53 women competed for the crown.
Miss Universe Thailand 2017 Maria Poonlertlarp, 31, Miss Universe Thailand 2021 Anchilee Scott-Kemis, 25, and Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi, 25, were in the panel of 15 judges. They were joined by Becky Russell, Meena Akrapongpisak, Naree Chevasutthisin, Narumol Noi-am, Phachara Prapanwattana, Phumiphat Thammaphan, Dr. Pongtheera Setthanawarakul, Puspanich Phuengpookjai, Sameera Shah, Sombatsara Teerasaroch, Tae Boonyaliang (Kratae Rsiam) and Voralak Tulaphorn.
On June 20, 2018, Singh-Thakral represented her birthplace Chiang Mai at Miss Universe Thailand 2018 and competed against 39 other candidates at the Royal Paragon Hall of Siam Paragon in Bangkok. She, Valentina Giardullo and Palita Puttharassu were second runners-up to Sophida Kanchanarin.
On October 10, 2020, Singh-Thakral represented Chiang Mai at Miss Universe Thailand 2020 and competed against 28 other candidates at True Icon Hall in Bangkok. She was runner-up to Amanda Obdam.
On February 2, 2022, she and Harcharan Singh Thakral got married. On May 6, 2023, she was officially appointed Miss Universe Phuket 2023.
Palitchoke Ayanaputra, 39, and Krit Amnuaydechkorn, 24, performed during the Miss Universe Thailand 2023 coronation ceremony. At the end of the event, Miss Universe Thailand 2022 Anna Sueangam-iam, 24, of Bangkok crowned her successor.
Singh-Thakral was second runner-up to Miss Universe Thailand 2023 Anntonia Porsild, 26, of Nakhon Ratchasima. Kirana Jasmine Chewter of Mae Hong Son was first runner-up.
