Hyunji Lee, 26, of Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County, Georgia, United States is of Korean descent. She is a U.S. citizen.
Lee is a member of Soldiers for Christ, a religious organization in Georgia. So are Eric Hyun, 26, of Suwanee, Gwinnett County and her fellow Lawrenceville residents Gawon Lee, 26, Joonho Lee, 26, Joonhyun Lee, 22, and Junyeoug Lee, 15.
Jeju Sauna
On September 12, 2023, Hyun parked a silver Jaguar sedan outside of the Jeju Sauna on Gwinnett Place Drive in Duluth, Gwinnett County. He called a family member to pick him up because he had injuries.
The family member arrived with a Mercedes and drove Hyun to a hospital. While at the hospital, Hyun asked the family member to retrieve a personal item from the silver Jaguar sedan, which they left outside of the Korean bathhouse in Duluth.
At around 10:50 p.m., the family member called 911 to report a human body inside the trunk of the silver Jaguar sedan. The body weighed 70 pounds.
On September 14, 2023, investigators confirmed that the body was that of a woman from South Korea, who is believed to be in her 20s or 30s. In relation to her murder, Gwinnett County Police Department officers arrested Hyunji, Gawon, Joonho, Joonhyun, Junyeoug and Hyun, who were each charged with murder, imprisonment, tampering with evidence and concealing a death.
Gwinett County Jail
Hyunji, Gawon, Joonho, Joonhyun, Junyeoug and Hyun were booked into the Gwinnett County Jail in Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County without bond. They are all U.S. citizens except Gawon, who is visiting the U.S. on a visa.
Joonhoo, Joonhyun and Junyeoug are siblings. Hyunji is the girlfriend of one of the suspects.
The victim was lured over from South Korea to join Soldiers for Christ over the summer. She was beaten and starved to death in the basement of Joonhoo, Joonhyun and Junyeoug’s residence in Lawrence.
Hyun used to live in the same residence. Details of Hyunji’s involvement in the crime have yet to be revealed.
