Dr. James Anthony “Jimmy” Ciccarelli, 62, of Waterbury, New Haven County, Connecticut, United States was an optometrist. David Rogers, 24, of Waterbury is a convicted felon.
While Rogers was on parole, he met Ciccarelli met on the dating app Grindr. The optometrist paid the convicted felon for sexual favors, according to the latter.
Surveillance video on the evening of August 22, 2023 showed a person leaving Ciccarelli’s house in Waterbury in a car registered to Rogers’ address. At 3:24 p.m. on August 23, 2023, Waterbury Police Department officers found the optometrist dead inside the house.
The officers found used condoms at Ciccarelli’s house. Deoxyribonucleic acid from the condoms matched records for Rogers.
On October 6, 2023, Rogers was arrested while he was in the custody of Connecticut Department of Corrections in Wethersfield, Connecticut on unrelated charges. He was charged with murder, strangulation and larceny.
On October 10, 2023, Rogers was arraigned. The judge settled on a $2.5 million bond for him.
