Vincent Root, 58, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States worked at Chatsworth Elementary School in Woodland Township, Burlington County, New Jersey, USA as a special education teacher. He has lived in different parts of New Jersey including Sea Isle City, Glendora, Runnemede and Trenton.
Over a period of several years, Root allegedly assaulted seven boys in classrooms inside Chatsworth Elementary School. In September 2023, a male student accused the special education teacher of touching him inappropriately during previous school years.
Led by Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office detective Gary D’Alessio, an investigation started. Root was placed on administrative leave and banned from school property.
On the morning of October 12, 2023, Root was arrested in Mount Holly, Burlington County after he turned himself in. He was booked into the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly pending a detention hearing.
Represented by Bob Agre, Root was charged with seven counts of second-degree sexual assault and seven counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. The ages and grades of the teacher’s alleged victims were not released.
On October 13, 2023, Root appeared in court. He was later conditionally released from jail.
On November 15, 2023, Root will attend a pre-indictment hearing. While the charges are pending, he is prohibited from returning to school and having contact with the alleged victims.
