Representing Colombia, Maria Alejandra Lopez Perez, 29, almost won Miss Grand International 2023. She was second runner-up to Luciana Fuster Guzmán, 24, of Callao, Peru.
Born in Pereira, Risaralda, Colombia, Lopez spent several years in Tampa, Florida, United States as a child. She studied industrial engineering at Sergio Arboleda University in Bogota, Colombia.
Lopez won Reina Hispanoamericana 2013 in Bolivia on December 12, 2013, Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus 2014 in Saint Martin on December 6, 2014 and Miss Mundo Colombia 2015 on September 5, 2015. She was runner-up to Miss Universe Colombia 2021 Valeria Ayos.
On June 18, 2023, Lopez represented Eje Cafetero at Miss Grand Colombia 2023. She competed against 22 other candidates at the Mayor Auditorium CUN in Bogota and won the title.
Miss Grand International 2023 is the 11th edition of the international beauty pageant founded by Nawat Itsaragrisil. It was the second time Vietnam hosted the competition.
Hosted by Matthew Deane, the Miss Grand International 2023 coronation ceremony was held at the Phú Thọ Indoor Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on October 25, 2023. Including Lopez and Fuster, 69 women competed for the title.
Ni Ni Lin Eain, 23,of Myanmar was runner-up to Fuster while the respective second, third and fourth runners-up were Maria Alejandra Lopez, 29, Colombia, Sthephanie Miranda, 29, of the United States and Lê Hoàng Phương, 27, of Vietnam. Eugenia das Neves, 24, of Angola; Skarxi Marte, 21, of the Dominican Republic, Ritassya Wellgreat, 22, of Indonesia, Melissa Bottema, 23, of the Netherlands and Thaweeporn Phingchamrat, 27, of Thailand were the fifth runners-up.
Miss Grand International 2024 will be held in Myanmar. The Asian country hosted the competition for the first time in 2018.
