Best Buy issued on October 26, 2023 a voluntary recall for 930,000 units of Insignia multifunction pressure cookers with 6-quart and 8-quart capacity. The inner pots sold separately as replacements are also under recall.
From October 2017 through June 2023, the recalled Insignia pressure cookers were sold at Best Buy stores across the United States and online on Best Buy’s website and Amazon for between $50 and $120.. The recalled pressure cooker, not just the inner pot, is eligible for replacement.
Consumers can contact Best Buy for a free replacement of the inner pot and floating locking valve. Impacted consumers must register online to receive a replacement kit.
The recall involves pressure cookers with model numbers NS-MC60SS8, NS-MC60SS9 and NS-MC80SS9 and inner cooker pots with model numbers NS-MCRP6NS9 and NS-MCRP6SS9. The name Insignia appears on the front of each unit and on its permanent label.
Manufactured in China, the recalled pressure cooker has incorrect volume markings on the inner pot, which poses a burn hazard to consumers. This defect can cause hot food and liquids to be ejected when the pressure cooker is vented using the quick release method or opened while its contents are pressurized.
Based in Richfield, Minnesota, USA, Best Buy has received 31 incident reports of the cookers’ contents being expelled under pressure. These include 17 reports of burn injuries.
