Ny’Quan Ontario Thames, 21, of Sumter, South Carolina, United States is a U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, USA.

On June 9, 2023, Thames fired a gun into the air multiple times near the Panda Express restaurant in the Cincinnati Entertainment District in Kern Place, El Paso. It was captured by a surveillance camera.

On September 3, 2023, El Paso Police Department officers confronted Thames after he tried to pick fights with other people on the street in the Cincinnati Entertainment District twice, particularly near Profe Bar and Sister Esther’s Bar at 2:00 a.m. and near Corralito Steakhouse at around 2:30 a.m. He was drunk and was with a group of friends both times.

At 2:35 a.m., Thames allegedly fired gunshots around 10 times in the Cincinnati Entertainment District and fled the scene. With the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Fort Bliss Criminal Investigation Division, the El Paso Police Department identified the Fort Bliss soldier using both surveillance and body cam footage of the incidents.

On November 1, 2023, Thames was arrested by El Paso Police Department officers. He was charged with two counts of discharge of a firearm.

On November 3, 2023, Thames attended a teleconference bond hearing. Because of the nature of his alleged crime and the future safety of the community, Magistrate Judge Ruben Nuñez refused to decrease the bond amount.

On November 4, 2023, Thames was released on a total surety bond of $10,500. Whether or not he is still stationed at Fort Bliss has yet to be confirmed.
