On November 7, 2023, construction workers called the Los Angeles Police Department after seeing what they believed was a dead body in black bags near Samuel IV’s house in Tarzana but the body was gone by the time officers arrived. Hours later, a homeless man came across the human torso in a dumpster in Encino, which is around 5 miles from Samuel IV’s house.
That day, Mei, Gaoshan and Wang went missing. Also missing are Samuel IV’s white Volkswagen Tiguan and white 2014 Nissan Pathfinder.
The Los Angeles Police Department is reasonably certain that the human torso was that of Mei. However, it takes time to identify a person via body parts by analyzing deoxyribonucleic acid.
On November 8, 2023, Samuel IV was arrested at a mall in Topanga, California and booked into the Van Nuys Jail in Van Nuys, Los Angeles. On November 13, 2023, he will appear in court.
Bond for Samuel IV was set at $2 million. His three children are safe and under the custody of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.
