Rojer Mauricio Sarmiento-Gutierres, 45, of Honduras is wanted by Honduran authorities for the charge of homicide. He was a noncitizen present in the United States without inspection.
When Sarmiento-Gutierres entered the U.S. at an unknown location on an unknown date, he was neither admitted nor paroled by a designated immigration official. In November 2021, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued him a notice to appear before a U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) immigration judge.
On April 18, 2023, Sarmiento-Gutierres was arrested in Chantilly, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA by agents from the field office of the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Washington, D.C., USA. They served him a notice of custody determination.
On September 29, 2023, the DOJ immigration judge in Annandale, Fairfax County ordered Sarmiento-Gutierres removed from the U.S. to Honduras. He presented a grave danger to the residents of the communities in Virginia “every day that he was allowed to walk the streets”, according to ERO Washington, D.C. assistant field office director Daniel Nichols.
“ERO Washington, D.C. operated with our local law enforcement partners to get this unlawfully present noncitizen off of our streets and out of our country,” Nichols said. “ERO will not allow the world’s criminals to use the Washington, D.C. area as a hideout from justice.”
On December 27, 2023, deportation officers from ERO Washington, D.C. removed Sarmiento-Gutierres from the U.S. to Honduras. The law enforcement directorate did not release a photo of the Honduran man.
Honduras was admitted to the United Nations on December 17, 1945. The country is bordered to the southeast by Nicaragua, to the southwest by El Salvador and to the west by Guatemala.
Xiomara Castro, 64, has been serving as the 56th president of Honduras since January 27, 2022. From December 11-12, 2023, Tegucigalpa, Honduras hosted Honduras and China’s third round of negotiations for a bilateral free trade agreement.
