Cillian Murphy, 47, was raised in Ballintemple, Cork, Ireland but he was born in Douglas, Cork. On May 31, 2019, Douglas formally moved into the Cork City Council area.

Murphy played American theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer in the epic biographical thriller film “Oppenheimer“. Born in New York City, New York, United States, the physicist died in Princeton, New York, USA on February 18, 1967 at age 62.

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, “Oppenheimer” premiered at Le Grand Rex in Paris, France on July 11, 2023. It hit theaters in the U.S. and the United Kingdom on July 21, 2023.

For Murphy’s “Oppenheimer” role, he was named the Best Actor in a Motion Picture-Drama at the 81st Golden Globe Awards at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, USA on January 7, 2024. Murphy and his younger brother Páidi Murphy and two younger sisters Sile Murphy and Orla Murphy all grew up in Ballintemple. Their father Brendan Murphy worked for Ireland’s department of education and their mother Jane Murphy was a French language teacher.

In 1996, Cillian met Yvonne McGuinness, a visual artist born in Kilkenny, Ireland. They got married in 2004 and lived in Dublin, Ireland.

In 2001, Cillian and McGuinness moved to London, England, U.K. She gave birth to their two sons in December 2005 and July 2007.

In 2015, Cillian and McGuinness moved back to Dublin with their two sons. The couple attended the Golden Globes 2024 ceremony together.
