Chelsea Anne Manalo, 24, of Meycauayan, Bulacan, Philippines is the first black woman to win Miss Universe Philippines. She was born in the Philippines to a black American father and a Filipino mother named Contessa Manalo.

When Chelsea was young, she was bullied for her skin color and hair type. In high school, she started competing in beauty pageants in high school.

In 2002, Manalo’s parents divorced. After the divorce, Contessa married Randy Castro Angeles, who raised Chelsea as his own daughter.

While working as a print, ramp and commercial model, Chelsea attended the De La Salle Araneta University in Malabon, Metro Manila, Philippines where she earned her bachelor’s degree in tourism management. She worked with designers Mark Bumgarner and Job Dacon and several publishing companies including Mega Magazine and Preview.

Chelsea is 5’8″ tall. She loves ice cream and she has shih tzu, basset hound, and pomchi dogs.

On September 3, 2017, Chelease competed against 34 other Miss World Philippines 2017 candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She finished in the Top 15.

In August 2019, Chelsea joined Kids for Kids, a youth-led organization that aims to create a safe space for children, as a volunteer. On August 26, 2022, she graduated from the De La Salle Araneta University.

On February 17, 2024, Chelsea was officially appointed Miss Universe Bulacan 2024. On May 22, 2024, she represented Bulacan at Miss Universe Philippines 2024, competed against 52 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Chelsea won the title. Her mother and her stepfather attended the coronation ceremony.

Later this year, Chelsea will represent the Philippines in the 73rd edition of the Miss Universe. If she wins, she will be the fifth Miss Universe from her home country following Gloria Diaz, Margarita Moran, Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray.

    3. I I have very high hopes for Chelsea Manalo. Incredible beauty with that mesmerizing dimples and eyes. An exceptional beauty to say the least. Very captivating aura of her presence and grace. I have never seen such a very essence of a womanhood in her likeness. She has more ambience that gravitated by her beauty and that runway walk is a killer. Her bathing suit is the best !!!!
