On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a wave of terrorist attacks in Israel. Khan allegedly planned to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the attacks.

Subsequently, Khan started communicating with two undercover law enforcement officers and confirmed that he and an associated based in the United States had been planning to carry out an attack in a particular city in the U.S. On August 20, 2024, he allegedly changed his target location from that city to New York City, New York, USA.

In support of ISIS, Khan allegedly tried to travel from Canada to New York City. He allegedly planned to use automatic and semi-automatic weapons to carry out a mass shooting at a Jewish center in Brooklyn, New York on October 7, 2024.

In an attempt to reach the U.S.-Canada border, Khan traveled from the vicinity of Toronto, Canada towards the U.S. On September 4, 2024, he was arrested in Ormstown, Canada, which is around 12 miles from the border.

The Pakistani man was charged with attempting to provide material support and resources to a designated foreign terrorist organization. He will be extradited to New York City.
