Vernon Knode, 39, of Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee, United States attended Tellico Plains High School in Tellico Plains, Monroe County, Tennessee. He previously lived in Chicago Heights, Illinois, USA.
On June 22, 2022, Knode’s grandmother Katie May Watson of Tellico Plains passed away at Sweetwater Hospital Association (SHA) in Sweetwater, Tennessee. She was 66.
Born in Adrian, Michigan, USA to George W. Shumate and Donna Jean Gilbert Shumate, Watson was Troy Watson III‘s wife and the mother of Debra Reagan, Katie Vandever, Daisy Vandever and Willie Vandever. Daisy is Knode’s mother.
Why was Vernon Knode arrested?
Aside from Chattanooga, Knode has lived in other parts of Tennessee including Tellico Plains. In September 2024, he turned 39.
On October 10, 2024, Knode made a phone call threatening to bomb SHA. Subsequently, he threatened to shoot people inside the facility.
Sweetwater Police Department officers investigated the phone call, determined Knode’s location and coordinated with the Chattanooga Police Department. He was arrested without incident in Chattanooga.
“We want to reassure our community that the safety of our citizens is our top priority, and threats of this nature are taken extremely seriously,” the Sweetwater Police Department stated. The department also thanked SHA, the Chattanooga Police Department, the Sweetwater Fire Department and Monroe County sheriff Tommy Jones for their assistance in resolving the situation peacefully.
