Antipolo is the capital of Rizal, Philippines. The province was named after Jose Rizal, who was born in Calamba, Laguna, Philippines.

Both Victor Rodriguez Sumulong and Angelito Cabaron Gatlabayan were born in Antipolo. The former was the undersecretary of the Philippines’ Department of the Interior and Local Government from 1992 to 1996.

Sumulong served as the congressman of Antipolo’s second district from 2004 to 2004 to 2007 and the mayor of the city from 2007 to 2009. Gatlabayan served as the mayor of the city from 1998 to 2007 and the congressman of the city’s second district from 2007 to 2010.

Casimiro “Jun” Alcantara Ynares III served as the governor of Rizal from 2007 to 2013. He was elected as the mayor of Antipolo in 2022 and reelected in 2025.
