Atang first captured international attention in November 2024 by securing a gold medal in the +90 kg division at the World Boxing Under-19 Championships in Pueblo, Colorado, United States. Recognizing his immense potential, Matchroom Sport chairman Eddie Hearn signed the young prodigy to a promotional contract in April 2025.
Fighting Glenn Williams
On July 18, 2026, Atang made his highly anticipated U.S. professional debut, stepping into the ring at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, USA. He squared off against Glen Williams, 36, of Houston, Texas, USA in a thrilling heavyweight showdown.
Standing at an imposing 6’6″, Atang utilized his physical advantages against the 6’4½” Williams, executing a flawless game plan. The teenage powerhouse delivered on his pre-fight prediction, knocking Williams out in the second round.
Williams dropped to 2 wins and 2 losses. Atang climbed to a flawless 8 wins and 0 loss with all 8 victories coming within a busy 12-month span.
Former International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight titleholder Sunny Edwards co-manages Atang. In a post-fight interview with DAZN Boxing, the latter expressed his excitement.
“It was unreal,” Atang shared. “Everything I’ve wanted from it, you know, the buildup to the fight. LA is lovely. I love looking around and I’ll definitely be looking around more, but the fight as well—you know, all you Americans, you’re tough. So it was hard to get him out of there, but we ended up getting it in the end.”
