Richard D. “Dick” Mitchell was a native of Texas, United States and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He has two brothers namely Erwin Mitchell and Harold Mitchell and a sister named Lois Hammel.

Dick was born in El Paso, El Paso County, Texas to Oda E. Mitchell and Zola Iva Reeg Mitchell. Here are 13 more things about him:

  1. He is one of three founders of the Indiana Snowmobile Association, Inc
  2. He served on the Tippecanoe Township Board for five years and on the North Webster / Tippecanoe Township Fire Department for more than 30 years.
  3. In 1949, he graduated from Larwill High School in Larwill, Whitley County, Indiana, USA.
  4. On May 15, 1954, he and Wilma May Mitchell got married in South Whitley, Cleveland Township, Whitley County.
  5. On April 3, 1955, Wilma gave birth to their son Richard Dean Mitchell. The baby died on the same day
  6. In 1956, Wilma gave birth to their son Bruce Mitchell. In the same year, he joined the North Webster Lions Club.
  7. In 1958, Wilma gave birth to their daughter Laurel Jean Mitchell.
  8. In 1962, Wilma gave birth to their daughter Sarah Mitchell.
  9. He was one of the original drivers for North Webster EMS when it was formed in 1975. On August 7, 1975, his daughter Laurel was found dead in the Elkhart River in Noble County, Indiana.
  10. After he and Wilma divorced, he married Sue Ann Ray on February 14, 1981.
  11. In 1992, he retired from Accur-Cut Machine Shop where he worked as a machinist and a salesperson.
  12. He served as the co-chairman for the North Webster Winter Festival in 2010 and 2011.
  13. At 8:10 a.m. on January 16, 2012, he died at his residence in Warsaw, Kosciusko County, Indiana. He was 81.
