Borsalino is the oldest Italian company specializing in the manufacture of luxury hats. On April 4, 2017, the company celebrated the 160th anniversary of its foundation.

The man behind the company was Italian craftsman and entrepreneur Giuseppe Borsalino. Here are 10 more things about him:

  1. He was born in Pecetto di Valenza, Piedmont, Italy.
  2. His brother Lazano Borsalino was a broker and their father Renzo Borsalino was a janitor.
  3. From 1847 to 1849, he worked as an apprentice hatter in Sebastiano Camagna‘s workshop in Alessandria, Piedmont.
  4. In 1850, he moved to Paris, France and worked in an atelier known for making hats.
  5. In 1856, he went back to Italy.
  6. On April 4, 1857, he opened the Borsalino Giuseppe e Fratello factory in Alessandria with 10 workers producing 120 hats a day.
  7. On April 1, 1867, his son Teresio Giuseppe Lazzaro Borsalino was born.
  8. In 1874, he opened a new hat factory in Genoa, Liguria, Italy.
  9. On September 15, 1989, he turned 66.
  10. On April 1, 1900, he died in Alessandria, Piedmont.
