Reina Hispanoamericana 2015 Sofia del Prado, 22, is representing her home country Spain at Miss Universe 2017. The grand coronation night will take place at The AXIS in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States on November 26, 2017.
Del Prado was born and raised in Albacete, Castilla-La Mancha, an autonomous community of Spain, and she speaks English, Arabic and French. After graduating from high school, she moved to Madrid for her college education.
It has been four years since del Prado moved to Madrid. After earning her international relations degree, she went to an international winery in the Department of International Commerce for her internship.
On July 30, 2015, del Prado competed against 14 other Miss Universe Spain 2015 candidates at the Auditorio Marbella in Marbella, Spain. She was second runner-up to Carla García Barber and was crowned Reina Hispanoamericana España 2015
On October 24, 2015, del Prado bested 23 other candidates at Reina Hispanoamericana 2015 in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. She also got the Miss Elegancia Rosamar special award.
As Reina Hispanoamericana 2015, del Prado passed her crown to Maria Camila Soleibe of Colombia on November 5, 2016. Soleibe then passed the crown to Teresita Marquez of the Philippines on November 4, 2017.
On September 24, 2017, del Prado won Miss Universe Spain 2017 at the Teatro Fortuna of the Hotel THB Torrequebrada in Benalmádena, Andalusia, Spain. She was crowned by Miss Universe Spain 2016 Noelia Freire.
Freire did not place at Miss Universe 2016, which was won by Iris Mittenaere of France. If Del Prado wins Miss Universe 2017, she will become the second candidate from Spain to win the crown.
The first and still the only Miss Spain to win Miss Universe is the late Amparo Muñoz. In 1974, she was crowned by Miss Universe 1973 Margarita Moran of the Philippines in Manila, Philippines.
