In 2016, Memphis James was featured on “The X Factor Australia” Season 8. More than a year later, he represented Australia at Mister Ocean 2017, which culminated on Nov. 24 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

“My most memorable experience from the trip was meeting all the guys for the first time,” James said in a statement exclusively obtained by Conan Daily. He added that he and the 48 other Mister Ocean 2017 candidates “got along with no drama.”

“Even though we were from different countries, we all shared the same interests and humour,” James said. Among the 49 Mister Ocean 2017 candidates, only he and Mister Tonga Benji Sellick are from Oceania.

The candidates easily forged new friendships and did not let the competition get in the way. For James, his closest companion during the competition was Mister Canada Benjamin Quinn Wills.

According to James, he and his fellow Mister Ocean 2017 candidates “became brothers within the short time.” He added, “In fact, we all became family because we had to stick together in order to survive the constant pressure and tension caused by the pageant.”

Before entering the international beauty pageant scene, James joined a reality music competition. He appeared on the premiere of “The X Factor Australia” Season 8, which aired on Seven Network on Oct. 3, 2016.

During James’s “The X Factor Australia” audition, he introduced himself as “a brick layer by day and a male entertainer by night,” which got the live audience screaming. His performance of the Bon Jovi song “It’s My Life” was able to get Iggy Azalea’s vote but unfortunately, neither Guy Sebastian nor Adam Lambert said yes.

After a singing competition and an international beauty pageant, what is next for the Melbourne native has yet to be seen. With his charming personality, talent and good looks, it will not be a surprise if he becomes the next Hollywood star from Australia following the footsteps of Chris Hemsworth, Luke Hemsworth, Liam Hemsworth, Sam Worthington, Eric Bana, Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe.
