“UFC on Fox 29” took place at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona on April 14, 2018. In the third bout of the evening, Arjan Bhullar faced Adam Wieczorek in the heavyweight division.
The heavyweight bout between Bhullar and Wieczorek ended at 1:59 of Round 2. Referee Al Guinee put a stop to the bout when Wieczorek submitted Bhullar via omoplata.
This ended the undefeated record of Bhullar, the first ever UFC fighter of Indian descent. Prior to “UFC on Fox 29,” he had 7 wins and 0 loss.
When Bhullar made his UFC debut on September 9, 2017 at “UFC 215,” he defeated Luis Henrique Barbosa de Oliveira via unanimous decision. Before joining the UFC, Bhullar defeated Adam Santos, Jon-Taine Hall, Blake Nash, Ryan Pokryfky, Chris Catala and Joe Yager.
After becoming the first fighter to defeat Bhullar, Wieczorek improved his record to 10 wins and 1 loss. The only fighter to defeat Wieczorek was Marcin Tybura.
Wieczorek made his professional mixed martial arts debut on November 5, 2011 at “Polish MMA Championships Finals” where he defeated Adam Bizon. In the same event, Wieczorek lost to Tybura.
After the loss to Tybura, Wieczorek maintained a winning streak, defeating Ryszard Raszkiewicz, Andrzej Deberny, Bartosz Jablonski, Filip Toe, Kevin Wiwatowski, Zoumana Cisse and Ernesto Papa. Before defeating Bhullar, Wieczorek made a successful UFC debut by defeatng Anthony Hamilton at “UFC Fight Night 121.”
In the co-main event of “UFC on Fox 29,” Carlos “The Natural Born Killer” Condit, 33, of Albuquerque, New Mexico competed against Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira, 30, of Tres Rios, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in the welterweight division. Oliveira submitted Condit via guillotine choke at 3:17 of Round 2.
In the main event, Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier, 29, of Coconut Creek, Florida and Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje, 29, of Arvada, Colorado battled it out in the lightweight division. Referee Herb Dean ended the bout at 0:33 of Round 4 when Poirier submitted Gaethje via punches.
