Fight fans flocked at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona on April 14, 2018 for “UFC on Fox 29.” They were witnesses to 14 exciting mixed martial arts bouts.
Kicking off the event was a bout between American contenders Luke “Cool Hand” Sanders, 32, and Patrick “The Animal” Williams, 36. They competed in the lightweight division.
The bout between Sanders and Williams ended after three five-minute rounds. The judges scored the bout 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 all in favor of Sanders.
Fighting out of Clarksville, Tennessee, Sanders made his UFC debut on March 4, 2017 at “UFC 209” where he lost to Iuri “Marajo” Alcantara, 37, of Marajo, Para, Brazil via kneebar. On December 9, 2017, Sanders returned to the cage and lost to Andre “The Asian Sensation” Soukhamthath, 29, of Woonsocket, Rhode Island via technical knockout via punches at “UFC Fight Night 123.”
After defeating Williams, Sanders now has 12 wins and 2 losses. On the other hand, losing to Sanders downgraded Williams’ record to 8 wins and 6 losses.
Williams is fighting out of Homestead, Florida. He made his UFC debut on April 26, 2014 at “UFC 172” where he lost to Chris “The Real Deal” Beal, 32, of Ventura, California via knockout via flying knee.
When Williams returned to the cage on June 13, 2015, he had his first win in the UFC. He knocked out Alejandro “Turbo” Perez, 28, of Aguascalientes, Mexico via guillotine choke at “UFC 188.”
On April 15, 2017, Williams competed in the UFC for the third time. He lost to Tom “Fire Kid” Duquesnoy, 24, of Paris, France via elbows at “UFC on Fox 24.”
In the co-main event of “UFC on Fox 29,” Carlos “The Natural Born Killer” Condit, 33, of Albuquerque, New Mexico competed against Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira, 30, of Tres Rios, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in the welterweight division. Oliveira submitted Condit via guillotine choke at 3:17 of Round 2.
In the main event, Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier, 29, of Coconut Creek, Florida and Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje, 29, of Arvada, Colorado battled it out in the lightweight division. Referee Herb Dean ended the bout at 0:33 of Round 4 when Poirier submitted Gaethje via punches.
