Fight fans flocked at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona on April 14, 2018 for “UFC on Fox 29.” They were witnesses to 14 exciting mixed martial arts bouts.
In the second bout of the evening, Matthew Lopez, 31, of Safford, Arizona faced Alejandro “Turbo” Perez, 28, of Aguascalientes, Mexico. They competed in the bantamweight division.
The bantamweight bout between Lopez and Perez ended at 3:42 of Round 2. The latter knocked out the former via knees and punches.
Before “UFC on Fox 29,” Lopez competed in four UFC bouts. On July 13, 2016, he made his promotional debut at “UFC Fight Night 91” where he lost via arm-triangle choke submission to Rani Yahya, 33, of Brasilia, Federal District, Brazil.
After losing to Yahya, Lopez defeated Mitch Gagnon, 33, of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada at “UFC 206” and Johnny “Pretinho” Eduardo, 37, of Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at “UFC 212.” But on November 11, 2017, Lopez lost to Raphael Assuncao, 35, Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil at “UFC Fight Night 120.”
After losing to Perez, Lopez has 10 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, Perez’s record improved to 20 wins, 6 losses and 1 draw.
Lopez was the eighth opponent Perez faced in the UFC cage. The Mexican fighter made his promotional debut on November 21, 2015
In the co-main event of “UFC on Fox 29,” Carlos “The Natural Born Killer” Condit, 33, of Albuquerque, New Mexico competed against Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira, 30, of Tres Rios, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in the welterweight division. Oliveira submitted Condit via guillotine choke at 3:17 of Round 2.
In the main event, Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier, 29, of Coconut Creek, Florida and Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje, 29, of Arvada, Colorado battled it out in the lightweight division. Referee Herb Dean ended the bout at 0:33 of Round 4 when Poirier submitted Gaethje via punches.
