Filipino mixed martial artist Rome “The Rebel” Trinidad turned 21 on May 12, 2018. On the same day, she was in Jakarta, Indonesia to compete in the women’s atomweight division against her Indonesian opponent Priscilla “Thathi” Hertati Lumban Gaol at “ONE: Grit and Glory.”
The atomweight bout between Trinidad and Gaol will be the seventh bout of the evening and the second bout in the main card. Only Trinidad and Eric “The Natural” Kelly, who is competing against Tetsuya Yamada of Japan in a catchweight bout, are the Filipino fighters in the “ONE: Grit and Glory” fight card.
“ONE: Grit and Glory” marks Trinidad’s third bout as a professional MMA fighter. It is her second bout in ONE Championship.
On December 9, 2017, Trinidad made her ONE Championship debut but was unsuccessful. She lost to her Thai-Japanese opponent Rika “Tiny Doll” Ishige via rear-naked choke submission at “ONE: Warriors of the World,” which took place at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
Hailing from San Rafael, Bulacan, Trinidad is also known as a model in the Philippines. As a martial artist, she is a practitioner of Sikaran, an ancient Filipino martial arts discipline focused on foot fighting.
Trinidad made her professional MMA debut on April 29, 2017. She knocked out her fellow Filipino fighter Maria Anne Javilagon at “UGB 20: Rambulan sa Galera” via punches.
While Trinidad has a professional MMA record of 1 win and 1 loss, Gaol has 2 wins and 2 losses. Trinidad is the third Filipino opponent faced by Gaol following Gina “Conviction” Iniong, a member of the famed Team Lakay of Baguio City, Philippines, and Krisna Limbaga.
On November 10, 2017, Iniong knocked out Gaol at “ONE: Legends of the World” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. On February 23, 2018, Limbaga lost to the Indonesian fighter via rear-naked choke submission at “ONE: Quest for Gold” at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.
