Jet Li, 55, looks unrecognizable in his photos circulating on Chinese social media platform Weibo. In the photos, the martial arts superstar looks frail, which made his fans from around the world worried.

The photos were taken in a temple in Tibet. In one of the photos, an unidentified man is assisting Li while visiting the temple, and for some netizens, the action star looks old in the photo only because of bad lighting and his manager, Steven Chasman, seems to agree.

“He has hyperthyroidism that he’s been dealing with for almost 10 years,” Chasman told the Washington Post. “It’s nothing life-threatening and he’s dealing with it.”

Li has been battling hyperthyroidism and spinal problems. He was diagnosed in 2010 with overactive thyroid, which can significantly accelerate the metabolism of the patient’s body resulting to sudden weight loss, irregular heartbeat, sweating and irritability.

“There is nothing to worry about my health,” Strait Times quoted Li as saying to the Singaporean press over the phone from Beijing, China in 2016. He added that he had no need for a wheelchair contrary to the rumors.

“I’m not sure which wheelchair company is putting out such news to sell more wheelchairs,” Lee said. “Perhaps, someone wants me to be a spokesman for their wheelchairs.”

Born on April 26, 1963 in Beijing, Li became a naturalized Singaporean citizen in 2009. A retired Wushu champion, he starred in numerous action films.

In 1982, Li made his acting debut as Jueh Yuan in “Shaolin Temple.” His third film “Born to Defense,” which was released in 1986, also marked his directorial debut.

The three installments of “The Expendables” featured Li as Yin Yang.  The most recent installment of the action film series, which was released in 2014, also featured Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Antonio Banderas, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson and former UFC fighters Randy Couture and Ronda Rousey, among others.

In 2016, Li played Jiang Ziya in “League of Gods.” His co-stars in the fantasy film were Jacky Heung,  Angelababy, Huang Xiaoming, Louis Koo, Fan Bingbing, Tony Leung and Wen Zhang.

In 2017, Li produced a Kung Fu short film “Gong Shou Dao,” which was directed by Zhang. Along with Li, the film starred Heung, Jack Ma, Donnie Yen, Wu Jing, Tony Jaa, Asashoryu Akinori, Zou Shiming and Natasha Liu Bordizzo.

Meanwhile, here is Li wishing his fans and friends a happy new year on December 21, 2017:
