Most mixed martial artists retire when they reach the age of 40. But for former ONE Featherweight World Champion Narantungalag “Tungaa” Jadambaa, 42, of Mongolia, age is just a number and he is feeling youthful and excited to return to the cage.
On June 23, 2018, Jadambaa will face Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly, 34, of the Philippines at “ONE: Pinnacle of Power” at the Studio City Event Center in Macau, China. Even though many cageside pundits suggest that should Jadambaa hang up his gloves for good due to his age, the Mongolian MMA veteran maintained that he is not yet done in the sport.
“Edward Kelly, be ready,” Jadambaa declared. “I can still fight like a young and hungry warrior.”
It may appear like Jadambaa is at the tail end of his glorious stint as an MMA fighter. But the trouper claims that he feels 10 years younger than his actual age and is motivated to make another run at the gold.
“My age won’t stop me from competing,” Jadambaa stated. “I want to prove that age is no obstacle. It is only a number.”
At an age when many athletes have already decided to call it a day, Jadambaa is still aiming to reach the peak form of his professional career. If anyone thinks that his best days are in the rear-view mirror, he begs to disagree.
“Age is just a number,” Jadambaa quipped. “Anything is possible if you work for it.”
Entering the marquee featherweight contest as the older man, Jadambaa believes that age will be an issue. He said, “I always think that I am 10 years younger than my actual age, so age will not play a factor at all.”
For Jadambaa, his age means he has less time to accomplish his goal than the younger lions in the organization, but he plans to make up for it by utilizing his vast wealth of knowledge. He is concentrating heavily on his cardiovascular regimen to ensure that he can physically match anyone else in the division.
Kelly is looking to avenge his older brother Eric “The Natural” Kelly, who lost to Jadambaa at “ONE: Dynasty of Champions” on July 2, 2016. Here is a clip from the bout between Eric and the Mongolian MMA veteran:
