On June 27, 2018, Leandro “Brodinho” Issa, 34, of Brazil and Roman “Sonic Boom” Alvarez, 23, of Guam had their face-off during the kick-off press conference for “ONE: Spirit of a Warrior.” The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), conducted the event at the Pullman Yangon Centrepoint Hotel in Yangon, Myanmar in collaboration with Telenor Myanmar.
On June 29, 2018, Issa and Alvarez will compete in the bantamweight division at “ONE: Spirit of a Warrior” at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon. It will be the ninth bout of the evening.
“Roman Alvarez is no doubt a difficult opponent,” Issa stated. “But I am confident of victory.”
For Issa, it is an honor to showcase his skills in ONE Championship and as a martial artist, he believes in taking on the biggest challenges possible as a test of mental and physical capacity. The Brazilian mixed martial artist said, “My next bout is just another opportunity for me to test myself and I will head into the match in optimal condition in order to put on a good performance.”
Currently, Issa holds a professional MMA record of 15 wins and 6 losses. Alvarez will be his seventh opponent in ONE Championship.
On the other hand, Alvarez currently has 6 wins and 1 loss. He is making his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Spirit of a Warrior.”
The ONE Championship athletes who attended the “ONE: Spirit of a Warrior” press conference were led by the hometown hero, reigning ONE Middleweight and Light Heavyweight World Champion “The Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang, 33, of Myanmar. ONE Championship chief commercial officer Jack Lim and Telenor Myanmar chief financial officer Yin Yin Htay were also present during the event.
